Testimonials

Gabriel is a magical teacher. He brings joy, knowledge, fun and imagination to his lessons. Our son loved playing with him and learned so much. He was more than a teacher, he became a friend. We are big fans!
— Caitlin Parker, Parent
Gabriel’s kindness and love of music came through from the very first lesson with my daughter, who was 5 when she tried her hand at piano for the first time. With patience and a spirit of play, he engaged her with musical games and simple compositions they would create together. When she was developmentally ready, he taught her to read music and memorize songs that he encouraged her to select. Gabriel’s lessons are nurturing, gentle, and joyful - he has an easy way of being with children (and grownups too) that makes them feel comfortable and ready to learn, and his passion for music is infectious. I would highly recommend Gabriel as a teacher of piano or cello to any child, teen, or grownup - whether they’re 5 or 95.

I would heartedly recommend Gabriel Dresdale for anyone who is beginning to learn cello. I was apprehensive to start cello lessons as I was over sixty and wondering if this long held dream of mine to play the instrument was unrealistic and fanciful. Gabriel evidences a wonderful ability to
balance out one's passion and support their interests while emphasizing the need for discipline, structure and technical proficiency. He is flexible and a good listener who can be supportive, but concomitantly can demand seriousness, practice and patient "paying of one's dues" in regards to following a set program of study.
He balances formal training with a sense of playful fun, improvisation and jamming. He is able to help people stay within their comfort zone and slowly acclimate to new skills through pushing one gracefully beyond their baseline when necessary.
He has helped me with the musical elements, but equally with the psychological skills of helping me not get overly discouraged, to trust the process, to have faith in one's musical journey and
most importantly to enjoy learning and playing and to have fun.
I would very much endorse him and feel lucky to have him as my teacher.

Gabriel’s approach to teaching balances technique and discipline with play, creativity, and enthusiasm. He believes that if a sense of play is not developed, along with curiosity and enjoyment, then making music can become rigid and uninspiring.

His lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student, and he works with children and adults from beginner to intermediate levels.

Since 2015, Gabriel has developed his work as a teacher, beginning with a group of students at the Lidskjalf Co-op School, a Waldorf-inspired homeschool initiative in Woodstock, NY, where he taught singing, recorder, and piano. Since then, he has taught numerous private students in cello, guitar, piano, and songwriting.

He is currently a cello teacher at Mountain Laurel Waldorf School in New Paltz, NY, and has previously taught at Primrose Hill School in Rhinebeck, NY (2018–2023).
